Ultimate Guide
to your Curaçao Wedding

Hi, I’m Ellen, a destination wedding filmmaker.
Having witnessed so many wedding days firsthand,
I’ve seen what truly works (and what doesn’t)
I’m excited to share those insights with you!
For couples dreaming of a Caribbean destination wedding.
If you’re dreaming of turquoise water, warm trade winds, colorful architecture, and a relaxed Caribbean atmosphere, Curaçao might just steal your heart. And the best part? Curaçao is outside the hurricane belt, making it one of the most reliable Caribbean islands for a destination wedding.
Whether you’re dreaming of a barefoot beach ceremony, a luxe seaside celebration, or an intimate wedding at one of Curaçao’s iconic yellow landhouses, the island has it all.
Living here, I’ve seen just how magical weddings on this island can be.

How to plan a wedding in Curaçao?
Planning a destination wedding can feel a little overwhelming, but Curaçao makes it surprisingly manageable.
Legal or Symbolic?
You can legally marry in Curaçao, but it involves paperwork (birth certificates, proof of unmarried status, possible translations and legalization). Many couples choose to legally marry at home and have a symbolic ceremony on the island, this gives you more flexibility and less stress.
If you want a legal ceremony, start the paperwork process at least 3–6 months in advance.
Do I need a Wedding Planner?
My personal advice? Hiring a local planner, it lets you actually enjoy your wedding instead of being stuck in full-on stress-and-coordination mode.
Working with someone local is especially helpful because dealing with vendors from afar can be tricky. Not every supplier is equally reliable, and a good planner knows exactly who you can trust, handles permits for beach ceremonies, creates a realistic timeline, and takes care of last-minute island logistics.
Bottom line: with a local planner, you get to relax and soak in the island magic while they handle the details.

Consider Guest Travel & Accommodation
Curaçao is very guest-friendly:
- Wide range of resorts, boutique hotels, and villas
- English and Dutch widely spoken
- US dollar commonly accepted (besides the Antillean guilder)
Many couples turn their wedding into a full wedding weekend: welcome event, boat day, beach brunch the day after.
How do you get to Curaçao?
Curaçao is easily accessible from both Europe and North America via Curaçao International Airport (Hato International Airport).
Direct flights from Europe to Curaçao:
- Amsterdam (AMS) — with KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, TUI Fly Netherlands and Corendon
Direct flights from the United States to Curaçao:

- New York (JFK) — 4 hours 30 minutes, three times per week
- Charlotte (CLT) — 4 hours, weekly service
- Atlanta (ATL) — 4 hours 15 minutes, weekly service

Airlines like American Airlines, JetBlue, and Delta Air Lines operate regular routes.

Why should you have a wedding in Curaçao?
Curaçao isn’t just a pretty island, it’s a place where your wedding can feel truly unforgettable. Imagine turquoise waters, soft trade winds, and sunsets that make every photo (and video!) look like a dream. Add to that the vibrant, colorful architecture of Willemstad, hidden beaches, and dramatic cliffs, and you’ve got a setting that’s impossible to replicate anywhere else.
Another reason to love Curaçao? It’s still relatively undiscovered by international visitors. That means you can enjoy beaches, venues, and spots that feel private and untouched. That said, I’ve noticed this changing fast, more and more people are realizing what a unique island this is, so consider yourself ahead of the curve.
It’s not just about looks. Curaçao sits safely outside the hurricane belt, which means you’re far less likely to get rained out than in other parts of the Caribbean.
On top of that, Curaçao offers incredible variety. Whether you want a barefoot ceremony on a secluded beach, an elegant reception at a luxury resort, or an intimate celebration at one of the island’s iconic yellow plantation houses, there’s something for every couple.
When is the best time to have your wedding in Curaçao?
The best time to get married in Curaçao is generally from December to April. Living here, I personally think the ideal months are March and April, when temperatures are warm but comfortable (around 27–29°C) and the chances of rain are relatively low. Thanks to the tropical climate, weddings are possible all year round, though the summer and early fall months (July–October) tend to be hotter and more humid.

Best venues on Curaçao
Curaçao offers an incredible range of venues. Here are three favorites that each offer something unique:
Seaside Venues
Want the beach feeling with a touch of luxury or historic charm? These are excellent choices:
- BijBlauw – a stylish, modern venue right on the water with elegant interiors. I think their Pier is one of the best spots on the island for a sunset ceremony.
- Serina Bay – one of my personal favorites. It’s a perfect mix of a historic yellow plantation house and a stunning beach, making it ideal for both a ceremony and reception that looks amazing in (photos and) video.
- Private Villas (Contact me if you want details!)
- Karakter – a beachfront venue known for its laid-back atmosphere and stunning ocean views.

Historical Venues on Curaçao
For a wedding full of classic Curaçao charm, consider these yellow plantation houses:
- Hofi Mango – has a modern chapel tucked under the trees, with plenty of shade for daytime ceremonies. Toast at sunset on what I believe is one of the best views on the island, overlooking Christoffel Mountain.
- Plantation Jan Thiel – elegant and versatile, offering serene panoramas over the salt pans, dramatic sunsets, and lush tropical surroundings.
- Boutique Hotel Coconuts – cozy and tropical villa with on-site accommodation for up to 16 guests, perfect for a relaxed brunch the next morning.

How to Choose the Right Wedding Vendors in Curaçao
Choosing the right vendors can make or break your wedding day, especially on an island like Curaçao. Local experience matters more than you might think: vendors who know the island understand the light, how to handle the weather, and the logistics that often surprise couples planning from afar.
Personality fit is just as important as skill. You want people who make you feel at ease, understand your vision, and enhance the vibe of your celebration. Whether it’s your planner, florist, makeup artist, photographer, videographer, or DJ, having trusted, reliable vendors makes everything run smoother.
I’m always happy to share local vendors I love working with. Just reach out, and I can point you to professionals who will help make your Curaçao wedding unforgettable.
