Practical Information: Hiring a Wedding Videographer Abroad

Hi, I’m Ellen, a destination wedding filmmaker.
Having witnessed so many wedding days firsthand,
I’ve seen what truly works (and what doesn’t)
I’m excited to share those insights with you!
For couples dreaming of an unforgettable destination wedding.
Are you getting married abroad and considering hiring me as your wedding videographer to capture your day? Alongside the creative side, there are also a few practical aspects to keep in mind.
In this blog, I explain everything transparently, so you know exactly what to expect, with no surprises later on.
Where I’m based & what’s included
I’m based between Curaçao and the Netherlands, but I film weddings all over Europe and the Caribbean.
Travel within 100 km of ’s-Hertogenbosch in the Netherlands, as well as within Curaçao, is included. For weddings outside these locations, travel and accommodation are not included and are calculated separately.
Because I split my time between Europe and the Caribbean, travel is always calculated from either the Netherlands or Curaçao, whichever is most cost-effective for you. This way, you never pay more than necessary.
Travel days & planning
When I’m booked for a wedding abroad, I always schedule separate travel days around the wedding day(s). I don’t film on the same day as traveling. This is a conscious choice: travel days can involve delays, and I want to be fully present, rested and focused on your wedding.
For example: Does your wedding weekend start with a welcome dinner on Friday afternoon? Then I will arrive on Thursday.
This way of planning creates calm, flexibility and ensures the highest quality.

Additional costs of a Destination Wedding
In addition to my videography package, destination weddings involve a number of additional expenses. These are always charged transparently and at cost:
- Flights (return)
- Accommodation
- Rental car or local transportation (I usually book with the same, reliable company)
- Meals during travel and filming days
I always choose comfortable and realistic options. No unnecessary luxury, but also no stress-inducing budget choices.
Accommodation: what works best
Ideally, I stay:
- In the same accommodation as (part of) your guests, or
- Within a 20 minute drive from the wedding location
This minimizes travel time and allows me to stay flexible throughout the day.

Michael & Nadine said
“The communication leading up to our wedding was incredibly reliable and transparent. Every question we had was answered thoroughly and promptly, which made the entire process feel effortless. We felt completely at ease from start to finish. Ellen exceeded our expectations, and we are beyond grateful that she was by our side on such a special day.”
Thinking About a Wedding Abroad?
Filming weddings in different countries and settings has shaped the way I work. Experience has taught me to stay calm, flexible and present. No matter where in the world we are.
What that means for you:
- I quickly sense what a situation needs: when to quietly step back, when to step in.
- New locations or unexpected changes don’t throw me off. Travel has taught me how to research, adapt and stay grounded.
- I remain calm under pressure, and you’ll feel that calm on your wedding day too.
- I don’t create moments or force scenes. I wait, observe and capture what naturally unfolds.
- Working in constantly changing environments has sharpened my instinct for light. Whether it’s bright sun, shifting clouds or a softly lit reception space, I know how to adapt and make it work naturally.
I believe that clear expectations upfront create trust, calm and space for creativity. By handling the practical side transparently, you can fully focus on what truly matters: celebrating your love, wherever in the world that may be.
