This May, I had the pleasure of filming Bart & Lieke’s wedding weekend at Villa Marsi.

After filming another wedding in the region earlier that week, I made my way to Urbino the day before their wedding weekend began. As I walked through the hotel lobby on my way to buy some water, I suddenly heard familiar voices. I looked around the corner and there they were: Bart, Lieke, and their children.

It felt like the perfect start to the weekend.

The next day, we met again in the historic center of Urbino, where we wandered through the charming streets, captured a few relaxed couple portraits, and shared lunch together before heading towards Villa Marsi.

For Villa Marsi, the most convenient airport to fly into is Bologna Airport (BLQ). From there, it’s approximately a 1.5-hour drive to the villa.

The best time to get married in Le Marche is during late spring (May–June) and early autumn (September). In late spring, the rolling hills turn vibrant green and the famous yellow broom flowers (ginestre) bloom across the countryside. Temperatures are warm but pleasant, perfect for outdoor ceremonies and long dinners under the open sky. Early autumn offers soft golden light, comfortable weather, and a relaxed atmosphere after the peak summer season. Ideal for a romantic Italian celebration.

Bart & Lieke never wanted their wedding to feel rushed. Rather than focusing on a single day, they chose to create an entire holiday weekend where everyone could settle in, reconnect, and celebrate together.

Arrival Day: Pool Party, Pizza & Campfire

Guests started arriving at Villa Marsi from late afternoon. As suitcases disappeared into rooms and drinks appeared by the pool, the atmosphere immediately shifted into holiday mode.

The celebrations began with a relaxed pool party, followed by one of Villa Marsi’s signature experiences: a pizza night prepared by Chef Sandor.

As the sun disappeared behind the hills, everyone gathered around the campfire, ending the evening with homemade limoncello.

It was the perfect start to the weekend.

The Wedding Day at Villa Marsi

The next morning started slowly, exactly as a destination wedding should. After breakfast and lunch with family and friends, preparations began for the ceremony.

Ceremony with a View (16:00)
Instead of a traditional first look, Bart saw Lieke for the first time as she arrived at the ceremony location overlooking the hills of Le Marche.

The ceremony took place in Villa Marsi’s open clearing, surrounded by nature and panoramic views.

One detail that made the ceremony especially memorable was the live music by Italian saxophonist Daniele Mancini. His music added so much atmosphere throughout the day and perfectly complemented the Italian setting.

Aperitivo & Golden Hour Portraits
After the ceremony, guests gathered for drinks while the celebrations continued. As golden hour approached, Bart and Lieke slipped away for a short portrait session. During our conversations before the wedding, they both told me: “We don’t really like overly romantic or posed photos.” Good thing, it’s not my style to direct them into stiff poses, we kept things natural and relaxed. We walked, joked around, talked, and simply enjoyed the view together. At sunset, we reached one of the beautiful hilltops surrounding Villa Marsi. Looking out over the golden landscape of Le Marche, they finally had a quiet moment together in the middle of an otherwise busy day.

Dinner Under the Trees (20:00)
Dinner was one of the moments Lieke had been looking forward to most. Years earlier, during a holiday in this region, she had experienced one of those classic Italian evenings: long tables, warm summer air, incredible food, and people lingering over dinner for hours. Ever since, she had dreamed of recreating that feeling for her own wedding. And that’s exactly what happened. Guests gathered at long tables beneath the trees beside the villa, sharing stories, speeches, laughter, and course after course of exceptional Italian food of Chef Sandor.

Evening Celebration (22:00)
As night fell, the party moved into full swing. Daniele Mancini and his DJ, bringing an incredible energy that instantly drew people onto the dance floor.

Tip from the videographer: if you’re getting married in Italy and want live music that genuinely elevates the atmosphere without overpowering it, Daniele Mancini is an incredible addition to your wedding day. Beyond being an exceptional musician, he’s also a warm and wonderful presence to have around.

Goodbye Breakfast

The following morning, everyone gathered one final time for breakfast before departures began.

By the end of the weekend, I genuinely felt part of the group myself. On the drive back to the airport, Lieke’s mother joined me in my rental car because their own car was overflowing with luggage. What followed was one of those unexpectedly lovely conversations that somehow perfectly summed up the entire weekend. Relaxed, warm, personal, and full of connection.
